Target Audience
This activity is intended for gastroenterologists, primary care/family physicians, advanced practice providers and other members of the multidisciplinary team who manage patients with short bowel syndrome.
Overview
This Clinical Case Challenge is designed to actively engage learners in realistic, patient-centered scenarios that promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Explain the clinical consequences and pathophysiology of short bowel syndrome and how they inform diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Identify evidence-based, multidisciplinary management strategies that address nutritional, fluid, and supportive care needs while addressing patient quality of life and functional goals.
- Evaluate the role and timing of pharmacologic therapies, including GLP-2 receptor agonists, in optimizing patient outcomes..
